New Moon Ritual

Tonight, Grandmother Moon cannot be seen.

The sky is dark, but it is not empty.

The new moon reminds us that beginnings do not always arrive loudly. Sometimes they begin unseen,  as a thought, a decision, a quiet knowing that something in our life is ready to change.

Tonight, you don't need a candle.
You don't need to bring anything with you.

Step outside and stand beneath the dark sky.

Feel the ground beneath your feet.

Listen.

To the wind.
To the trees.
To the water, if it is near.
To whatever the night gives you.

Place one hand over your heart and ask yourself:

What am I ready to begin?

Don't search for the perfect answer.

Let the first honest thing that comes to you be enough.

When you are ready, speak your intention into the night:

“From this darkness, something new begins.
May I have the courage to nurture it,
the patience to let it grow,
and the wisdom to know when it is time to rise.”

Then take one small step forward.

Just one.

Let that step mark the beginning.

You don't need to know the whole path yet.

Grandmother Moon begins her journey again in darkness too.

Closing 🌑

Before you go inside, look once more at the dark sky.

Thank you, Ningimpi Withi — Grandmother Moon.
For reminding us that what we cannot yet see can still be growing.
Walk beside us as this new cycle begins.
Watch over our ancestors, us, and those yet to come.
